Boën

Boën , or Boën-on-Lignon , is a common French, located in the department of the the Loire and the area the Rhone-Alps.

Geography

Located in the plain of the Drill, the town of Boën saw on the Monts of the Lyonese in the East and on the Monts of Drill in the West. Commune of 3200 inhabitants, the small town of Boën occupies left bank of Lignon, at the place where it penetrates in the plain, with the foot of the coast forézienne. This chief town of canton is a stage city with the crossroads of the RN 89 and RD 8. Its economy rests on the metallurgy, mechanics, transformation of wood and the craft industry. It profits from the establishment of many public services.

History

Already known under the Roman occupation, this borough was strengthened in XVe century. The rise of Boen, in the beginning simple hamlet of the parish of Bouteresse, was supported by its lords, the Damas of Couzan. They granted a charter of Frankness its inhabitants in 1247, transported the tomb of their family in her church, then strengthened what in 1314 was one of the thirteen cities to send delegates to the States of Drill.

  • Castle Museum of the Vine. This castle was built at the XVIIIe century by an Italian architect - Dalgabbio. Classified historic building it has splendid and rare rotunda with Italian and rooms of reception to decoration Louis XVI.

Located on the last floors of the castle, the Museum of the Vine recalls the life of the vine growers foréziens at the beginning of the XXe century. On two stages, you discover the work of the vine (the size, grape harvest, grafting) but also the daily life of the vine growers thanks to the reconstitutions of interiors (the bar forézien, the kitchen, the room to sleep, the cabin of vine). The museum is very interactive (models, sound and visual documents…)
