Blue tit

The blue tit ( Cyanistes caeruleus ) is a Passereau of the family of the Paridés.

Description

Smaller than the coal Titmouse (11,5 cm for a weight from 9 to 12 G), it is characterized by its blue cap and its back, its cheeks and its face white, a black stringcourse on the eyes and its yellow chest.

Geographical distribution and habitat

In all Europe except for the north of Scandinavia. It is sedentary and occupies almost all the habitats: wood of leafy trees, hedges, parks, gardens… She lives up to 1200 meters in mountain.

Behavior

Commune, always very active and familiar. It is a usual visitor of the mangers in winter.

Song

It is said that the titmouse zinzinule or zinzibule, its cry becomes strident with the approach of a danger, she informs her close relations thus or seeks to intimidate her adversaries.

Mode

It nourishes primarily insects and larvae in summer, seeds, bays or buds the remainder of the year.

Reproduction

Two brooded from 6 to 12 eggs per annum (April-May then June-July). These eggs white are stained the russet-red one. The Nid is built in a cavity with narrow opening: hole of tree or in a wall, nesting box or box with letters. The eggs are brooded by the female from 12 to 14 days.
