Blue Lake (Australia)

The Blue Lake (the blue lake) is broad a Lac which is in the Caldeira of an extinct volcano located at Mount Gambier in South Australia. In the local language indigenous it is named “ Waawor ”.

From December to March, the lake is dyed of a vibrating color blue cobalt, turning to the metal gray from April at November. The precise cause of this phenomenon is still matter with conjecture but it is considered that it is probably due to a question of temperature of the various surfacings during the summer months, bordering the 20°C, causing a precipitation of the Carbonate of calcium and allowing it micro Cristal lisation of calcium carbonate. This produced a dispersion of the wavelength corresponding to the blue light. The movement of the plankton in the lake during the seasons and the day can also play in the changes of visibility.

The Blue Lake provides the city (Mount Gambier) out of drinking water, providing approximately 3  600  ml per annum on its 36  000  Ml of reserve. Its average depth is of 70  Mr.
