The BlueTec makes it possible to reduce in particular the particles of oxide of nitrogen (produced by high the Température of the Moteur and the Dioxygène of the Air) responsible for the peaks of Ozone. There exist two types of BlueTec based on the same principle: An additional tank AdBlue placed upstream which contains is:

- Nox urea or absorber preferred for the large engines;
- ammonia NH3 coming either from the tank or produced starting from the nitrogen (NR) of the air.

The Urea or the Ammoniac reacts then with Nox to eliminate them. They are then stored in the catalytic layer of a Catalyseur SCR (selective catalytic reduction) used for an additional reduction of Nox. However this system is reserved for the moment only with the Marché S American and German because this Technologie requires a fuel has low content suffers from it, less than 15 ppm. The other countries of the European Union will have to await the standard Euro 5 of 2009. However, system makes it possible to lower the emissions at the infinitesimal level which will claim the standard Euro 6 of 2013!
