Composition and recording of Blood one the Tracks
After having made a round in 1974 with The Band, Dylan went to New York to on the matter improve its talent of painter with a Master, Norman Raeben. There were to spend one day, he will remain two months. Its way of seeing changed, and its musical writing also, the first result being Blood one the Tracks (and later Desire ).Of return to Minnesota, he undertook to write the songs of his new album. In little time it composed eleven titles. After having tested them near his friends, it began the recording in New York on September 16th, Dylan made also the production and Phil Ramone engineering. It was accompanied by Eric Weissberg and his Delivrance group. " Lily, Rosemary and the Jack off Hearts, " " Meet Me in the Morning, " and " Wind" idiot; were recorded during this session.
The following day, " You' Re has Big Girl Now, " " Shelter from the Storm, " and " You' Re Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go" were recorded only with Dylan and the bass player Tony Brown.
September 16th, the organist Paul Griffin joined the duet and five new titles were recorded: " Buckets off Rain, " " Yew You See Her, Say Hello, " " Simple Twist off Fate, " " Up to Me, " and " Tangled Up in Blue". The duration of the recorded pieces being too long, Dylan had to be solved to give up " " Up to Me" , this song will be taken again by Roger McGuinn (ex Byrds) in his album Cardiff Pink (1976).
At the last minute, whereas the album was ready to be distributed, Dylan decided to re-record five of the ten titles with Mineapolis with musicians of studio gathered by his brother David Zimmermann. The probable reason is that his/her brother and found the too monotonous home record to him, on the same rate/rhythm.
With the local musicians, Dylan re-recorded " Wind" idiot; and " You' Re has Big Girl Now" December 27th, then on December 30th it was the turn of " Tangled Up in Blue, " " Lily, Rosemary and the Jack off Hearts, " and " Yew You See Her, Say Hello."
The revised version of Blood one the Tracks was finally diffused on January 17th, 1975.
When the album was distributed, the name of the musicians of Mineapolis did not appear on the small pocket, because Columbia had already a stock of small pockets which the company of disc wished to use. It was envisaged to correct the list of the musicians ultieurement, but that forever made… only the musicians of the Delivrance group are quoted.
The musicians of studio of Mineapolis are: Kevin Odegard (guitar), Chris Weber (guitar), Billy Peterson (low), Gregg Inhofer (keyboard), Bill Berg (battery), Peter Ostroushko (mandoline) and Jim Tardoff (Banjo).
Songs
In " Tangled Up in Blue" Dylan tried to tell a history, while being itself participating, to be at the present and at the same time last, to defy time as he said itself in 1985." Wind" idiot; is the strongest song where it regulates accounts, including with its wife which it has just left:
Idiotic wind, blowing every time you move your mouth,
Blowing down the backroads headin' south.
Idiotic wind, blowing every time you move your teeth,
You' Re idiotic year, babe.
It' S.A. wonder that you still know how to breathe.
At the end of the song, he also recognizes being in wrong:
Idiotic wind, blowing through the short props off our coats,
Blowing through the letters that we wrote.
Idiotic wind, blowing through the dust upon our shelves,
We' Re idiots, babe.
It' S.A. wonder we edge even feed ourselves.
