Blood dogwood
The blood dogwood ( Horned sanguinea ) is a shrub with null and void sheets of the family of the Cornacée S. It owes its name with the red color blood of its sheets at the end of the summer. The young branches exposed in the light of the sun also take a red color shining. This phenomenon is due to the presence of a pigment anthocyane. The shrub is thus used for its decorative properties. The buds are opposite. The stems of the year were formerly employed in Vannerie. According to the Theory of the signatures, it has medicinal properties in bond with blood circulation: tonic of the heart, invigorating the arteries… The macérat of buds is used in Gemmothérapie.
The fruit is a drupe black purple, of globulous form, containing a core. It is not edible, contrary to the fruit of the male Cornouiller, red dark and of more lengthened form. This plant is used in Phytothérapie and more particularly in Gemmothérapie concerning its Bourgeon S.
It is one of the sometimes dominant shrubs of the hedges or the undergrowth on calcareous ground, in all the moderate Europe.
