History

The existence of the site of Blanzat is very old. Indeed, the presence of first inhabitants goes up at the time Magdalénien (prehistory) and of many cut flint tools are testimony. Since, Neolithic era at the time Gallo-Roman and of the Middle Ages to the Revolution, the times and the people followed one another to form this charming village of countryside.

At the time of the XIXe century and approximately up to 1914, the village thrived thanks to the fruit-bearing cultures (vine growing then pommiculture) and with industry (Paper mill St Vincent, rubber factory Michelin). But the turning into a desert of the campaigns touched the commune hard, reducing its number of inhabitants to 946 in 1936.

It is finally the development of the car, the new attraction for the périurbaines communes and the strong foreign immigration (with great Portuguese majority) which made it possible the village to be repopulated to reach the 4000 inhabitants.

Administration

Blanzat belongs to Clermont Communauté which gathers twenty-and-a communes of the agglomeration clermontoise.
