Blankenberge (old orthography Blankenberghe ) is a common city and Dutch-speaking of Belgium located in Flemish Région in the Province of Western Flanders.
It is a seaside resort at the edge of the the very popular North Sea being between Brugge and De Haan (the Cock).
The popularity of Blankenberge in fact without question one of the most attended seaside resorts coast. The activity beats full sound on the immense beach and the enamelled dam of many trade, coffees, restaurants and tearooms. After laying down it sun, Blankenberge revêt its atours of exit to propose a night life which is done rare on the Belgian side. That the amateurs of calm reassure themselves, this animated station conceals quiet corners. Our place of predilection remains the port from where you will be able to contemplate the comings and goings of the fishing vessels and the pleasure boats or to attend the unloading of famous fishing to shrimp.
History
There does not remain large-thing of the coastal landscape of origin. Formerly, people had less spare time or could not simply grant itself holidays. Tourism at the coast was very limited. In fact the Brugeois discovered the first joys of water and the beach. To the neighborhoods of 1750, they went sporadically to Blankenberge.
Personalities related to the commune
- Jean de Coninck, resistant; like five other young Belgians of Blankenberge (Georges Sandelé, Rene Mestdagh, Camille Of Corte, Raymond Marmenout, Louis Dehenauw), he is condemned to died by the German martial court sitting to the Faouët (Brittany). June 24th, 1944, they are shot in Rosquéo, in Lanvénégen. Jean de Coninck is only wounded: he flees under the shootings. He is looked after and hidden by inhabitants and will survive.
