Blandine is a female first name resulting from Latin " Blandus" (cherishing, soft) which also gave English bland (soft).

The name is given in reference to the one of most famous of the Martyrs of Lyon. Young slave, Blandine was martyrisée with Lyon under Marc-Aurèle in 177 with forty other Christians of Lyon and Vienna martyrs, the bishop of Lyon Saint Pothin, the Sanctus deacon, Attale, Epagathe, Alexandre, Alcibiade, Maturus, Ponticus and Biblis martyrdom. Their martyrdom is reported in a “Letter of the Churches of Lyon and Vienna” addressed to the Churches of Phrygie and Asia and retranscribed in IVe century by Eusèbe de Césarée in its ecclesiastical Histoire .
