Black parrot

The black Parrot or black Coracopsis ( Coracopsis will nigra (Linnaeus, 1758)) is with the Perroquet vasa Coracopsis vasa one of both Espèce S of the kind Coracopsis .

Subspecies

Three Sous-espèce S are recognized:
  • Coracopsis will nigra will nigra (Shaw, 1812) is of Madagascar;
  • Coracopsis will nigra sibilans Milne-Edwards & Oustalet, 1885 of the the Comoros;
  • Coracopsis will nigra libs Bangs, 1927 of the west and the south of Madagascar.

Distribution

This parrot populates Madagascar and the Comoros. Perhaps it was introduced with the Seychelles (subspecies C.N. sibilans ) from which it conquered the Curieuse island naturally. It was also introduced with Maurice (subspecies C.N. will nigra).

Description

It measures 35 to 40 cm for a mass of 315 G ( C.N. ) or from 132 to 153 G ( C.N will nigra. sibilans in Seychelles). Its plumage is brown dark with under-caudal the grisâtres.

Habitat

The black Parrot populates the dense wet forests, including the Mangrove S, but also the Savane S, the dry secondary forests.

Food

It consumes fruits, bays, flowers and seeds. It is more frugivorous than its close relative, the Parrot vasa.

Nesting

It is held November at January.

Movements

This bird is sedentary but diurnal movements, related to the search for food, exist.
