Black dragon

black Dragon is a series of fantastic medieval war games on the scale Subtactique published by Eurogames. They belong to the same series as the historical medieval play Cry Havoc .

History

Black dragon is based on the play Dark Blades , published in English by Standard Ranges. The first episode of black Dragon, the Exile , takes again the pawns and the charts of Dark Blades but adds charts of undergrounds, gauges of different fates, a black dragon which recovers several boxes and especially a play in shift. The Exile leaves in 1990.

A second episode, the Test , appears at Eurogames in 1993. It contains the same pawns as the Exile, more new pawns to represent new creatures, the krobs.

Two other episodes, the Return and the Conquest , were envisaged by Eurogames but are never appeared.

Rules

The rules of black Dragon evolved/moved from those of Cry Havoc, and are very similar. They are far from different from those of the last plays of the series like Vikings. Each character with foot is represented by two pawns double-faced cloth of which only one is concerned at the same time. A pawn represents a character unscathed on his recto and struck on its back, and a second pawn represents the same character wounded with the recto and died in the back. The characters who can ride a horse are represented by four pawns in all: two show them with foot, and two others represent them with horse, wounded or unscathed with the recto, and the horse alone, alive or died in the back. Each pawn indicates the values of attack, defense and movement of the character, his name and an illustration colors.

The players play each one in their turn; the only action which a player can make during the turn of his adversary is a defensive Tir with certain gunners during the phase of movement of its adversary.

The engagements are regulated by comparing the sum of the values of attack of the attackers with that of the defenders. The report/ratio obtained (2 compared with 1,3 against 1…), with the figure of a die with 10 faces, the result of the combat gives. For the shootings, the type of weapon (short arc, long arc, crossbow) and the ground where the target is replace the power struggle.

Two magicians, Zacharie and Shaman, are present. Each one has a certain number of points of magic to launch its fates which can assign the characters or even create elements of ground.

Countryside and scenarios

In the Exile, a group of rebels carried out by the Konrad knight, warlike Godiva and the Zacharie magus flee the oppression of the mysterious kändars. They are found by magic on an inhabited island by various native-born people, of which most prominent is the people of the orcs carried out by Black Fox and the Shaman wizard. The beginning of the countryside proposes to live the first skirmishes between the two factions whereas they try to obtain reinforcements of the other people of the island. Then, following a great arranged battle, the two factions decide to be linked to fight the kändars. For that, they must obtain the mauve sphere, a magic object which would make it possible to draw up the dragons. The last two scenarios of the Exile see the allies fighting a powerful black dragon in a natural arena, then a clan of black dwarves in undergrounds.

The Test sees the allies going down in undergrounds inhabited by people from intelligent spiders, the krobs. They must find there the dwarf who hid the mauve sphere, to find the sphere itself, then to leave the undergrounds on other side.
