Black Rebel Motorcycle Club is a group of American Rock originating in San Francisco and now based with Los Angeles, consisted of Peter Hayes (song, guitar, low), Robert Turner , of his true name Robert Levon Been (low, guitar, song), and Nick Jago (battery). Biography
The first traces of Black Rebel Motorcycle Club are to be sought in 1995, when Peter Hayes and Robert Turner, then high-school pupils, make knowledge in San Francisco. Both are impassioned by the British groups of the beginning of the year 1990, in particular those of the label Creation (The Jesus and Mary Chain, My Bloody Valentine, Ride…). They join each one of other groups however, while trying to keep contact in order to assemble their own group as soon as possible. Peter Hayes has one moment worked as a guitarist within one of the most prolific groups of the American scene underground of the years 1990, The Brian Jonestown Massacre, it is part besides for that of the distribution of the documentary rock'n'roll turned by Ondi Timoner, Dig! reporting the route of 2 groups, the Dandy Warhols and Brian Jonestown Massacres in the world of " industry musicale".It is in 1998 qu ' they leave their respective projects and that they form, with the beater Nick Jago originating in Cornouailles, a group called The Elements . Their first concert takes place as of November 1998, but the group changes shortly after name into discovering a homonym and chooses Black Rebel Motorcycle Club, in reference to the film Equipped wild the (1953): the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club is the gang of motorcyclists carried out by the character of Marlon Brando.
In 1999, a demonstration 16 tracks is recorded and pressed with 500 specimens, all sold during the concerts. The group moves then in Los Angeles and is noticed by the radio station KCRW; but the enthusiasm which it causes reached the Old continent quickly, where the BBC Sheffield names their demonstration " Recording of the semaine". The demonstration falls even between the hands from No5el Gallagher, coleader of Oasis, which then declares with magazine MOJO that Black Rebel Motorcycle is its new preferred group. In fact, the group profits from the passion of the musical press around the " revival of the rock" , carried out by the Strokes or the Kings Off Leon. The proposals flow, of the majors like independent labels, but it is finally on Virgin Records that Black Rebel Motorcycle Club is signed, in March 2000.
After a short American round at the sides of the Dandy Warhols, the group enters in studio and records a first album éponyme which appears in March 2001. The influences Shoegazer of the group mingle with it with a crasseux sound evoking The Stooges or The Gun Club. The melodies are not remains about it, and Black Rebel Motorcycle Club reaches directly the statute of revelation.
Two years later, in September 2003, the group returns with darker album and always such a percussion, Take Them One, One Your Own , but is thanked by Virgin Records eight month later. Moreover, Nick Jago leaves the group at the end of the round of summer 2004 due to " conflicts interns" (in fact of the problems of drugs and alcohol).
It was fortunately about a bad provisional master key, since 2005 the group signs on the Echo label in Europe and RCA in the United States and in the rest of the world. Nick Jago, reinstates to him Black Rebel Motorcycle Club during the recording of the third album, Howl , which appears in August. Howl marks an evolution in the style of the trio: the songs more acoustic and are influenced here by the americana, which confers a tonality to them almost country.
Of return in 2007 for a new album, appointed “Baby the 81”, in which the rock'n'roll' roll does not find the carbonaceous heart of their adolescence, three musicians distill a rock'n'roll dark, poisseux and confined the whole on bottom of remarkably required and powerful words; balanced by the abrasive voice of Peter.
