Black Panthers (Israel)

The Black Panthers or Black Panthers (in Hebrew: הפנתריםהשחורים, HaPanterim HaShkhorim ) is a movement Israeli protester second generation of the olim originating in countries Moslem, resulting, in other words, Judaïsme mizrahi. Their main mission was to fight for social justice in favor of the Eastern Jews. It accepted the nickname of Black Panthers of the group Afro-American of the Black Panthers, and then adopted it like their official name. They are called sometimes the Israeli Black Panthères to distinguish them from the Afro-American group.

The movement began in 1971 with Mosrara, in the vicinity of Jerusalem, in reaction to the discrimination led by the Israeli authorities against the Jews Mizrahi, and that in spite of the fact that they were present as of the creation of the state. This discrimination was perceptible through the attitude different from the Establishment Ashkénaze with respect to the olim originating in Soviet Union. The founders of the movement protested against " ignorance for the major social problems on behalf of the establishment" , and proposed to fight for a different future.
