Black Mesa Is

In the Series of video game Half-Life , Black Mesa Is is a fictitious place with the periphery of Cité 17 which is used as general headquarter with resistance in Half-Life 2 .

The base is located close to a Barrage, its energy source, and near the abandoned mining city of Ravenholm. The Doctor Eli Vance, the Doctor Judith Mossman, Alyx Vance, and of many other members of the resistance (of which some Vortigaunts) live there.

Presentation

Black Mesa East is based on several sectors and has many devices which make it autonomous like its clean Générateur S, of the Cuisine S, spaces of relaxation, and especially the Laboratoire of Dr. Eli Vance where it continues work on the Téléportation started in initial the Research center of Black Mesa. Eli Vance works with the Doctor Isaac Kleiner which has its own laboratory hidden in the center of City 17.

Vortigaunts seem to carry out a great number of tasks in the base, like preparing food or supplying the generators (thanks to their capacity natural to produce electricity). They also assist Eli in its laboratory while using, while installing or by supplying various machines.

All the entrance points of Black Mesa East are under the monitoring of safety video camera and contain rooms of decontamination with heavy doors armor-plated to keep the intruders away. Black Mesa East is directly connected to Ravenholm via a tunnel which was then barricaded after the contamination of Ravenholm to prevent the Zombi S and crabs of head to enter the complex.

In the play

Gordon Freeman visit quickly Black Mesa Is during the events of Half-Life 2 . It meets there Judith Mossman, Eli Vance and Alyx Vance who allow him to obtain some invaluable information on the situation. Alyx Vance also presents to him Chien, a robot manufactured by his/her father to protect it. It is as during this visit as Eli Vance offers the energy Manipulateur of field item zero to Freeman.

A little later Black Mesa East is attacked by the Cartel which eliminates most of resistant on the spot and captures Eli Vance to bring it to Nova Prospekt. It is only later, in a conversation of Wallace Breen, which one learns that the attack could be realized thanks to the treason of Judith Mossman.

The attack seriously damaged Black Mesa Is and the resistant ones are supposed like having been killed or being itself escaped (there is a broad discharge pipe able to be used as loophole with the many resistant ones though that could be countered by robots blade). On its side, blocked by crumblings, Gordon Freeman does not have other choices to only flee while passing by the condemned road which leads to Ravenholm. After this incident, Black Mesa Is not more re-examined play.

A vestige of Black Mesa?

Certain players thought that Black Mesa East was actually the part Is or a branch of the Research center of Black Mesa, the place where the incidents of the first Half-Life proceed. In fact, they are two entirely distinct places.

The true Research center of Black Mesa is localized in Black Mesa in the New Mexico of the the United States whereas Black Mesa East is located close to City 17, a town of Europe of the East (from where Black Mesa Is). The base was probably named " Black Mesa" because the old complex of research was the work place of several members of resistance like Eli Vance and that those would have liked to make perdurer the name. Except their names and their employees, the only joint things of the two centers are their own autonomy and their research projects. But Dr. Eli Vance says explicitly that “ it is not a question of Black Mesa ” .
