Black Desire
Noir Desire is a group of French Rock resulting from the scene of Bordeaux and formed in the Années 1980. The charismatic singer, Bertrand Cantat, one are impassioned of letters, which is found through its texts. The other members of the group are Serge Teyssot-Gay with the Guitare, Denis Barthe with the battery and Frederic Vidalenc (replaced in 1996 by Jean-Paul Roy) with the low . The career of Black Desire embraced more than 20 years and saw its apogee in the Années 1990. The music and the words of this committed group translate a sharp and impassioned energy.
History of the group
Bertrand Cantat and Serge Teyssot-Gay, both in the same class of second to the Saint-Genoa college with Bordeaux in 1980, decides to play together, Denis Barthe joined them later a few months. The initial training of the group is supplemented by the first bass player, Vincent Leriche.
In 1982, this last as Serge Teyssot-Gay leave the group in order to found the duet B.A.M. , Frederic Vidalenc, member of Dernier Subway , then joined the group as a bass player, Luc Robene fascinating, as for him, the place of guitarist. Bertrand Cantat also leaves the group (which is written Noirs Desires then) in 1983, but returns six months later, after being replaced by Emmanuel Ory-Weil, which will become the official manager of the group. Sergio returns in 1985 and the formation will remain stable during ten years.
At the beginnings of the group, Bertrand Cantat posts clearly her passion for Jim Morrison, singer of the group The Doors while raising pants of leathers and collars Indian. This influence is even more obvious in the scenic services of the singer who will be often inspired by his mentor in his escapades.
The first album of the group appears in 1987, it acts of a mini album produced by Théo Hakola, singer of the group Passion Fodder . The album are entitled Where do you want that I r' guard? . Success comes with the following album, Please return the heart (to which it belongs) , and its tube to the Dark heroes of the land-mark radiophonic real success that the group assumes badly (the title returns even in the Top 50), refusing to be catalogued like groups for “the 50 year old housewife”. Bertrand Cantat, a few years later, will entrust her irritation as for the success of this song, which was not included/understood with its right value, much of people not having included/understood the double direction of the song (“These people had included/understood only the second degree of the text of the Dark heroes of the land-mark, they took that for a sea shanty, a trick with the Pogues, without more… ”). Their two albums according to, Of cement under the plains and Tostaky , cultivate a blackness which rather attaches them to a mobility underground (due to very purified sonorities and deeply rock'n'roll of the album Tostaky ). The group builds the essence of its success on scene, with in particular the round which will be recorded on Dies Irae and after which Bertrand Cantat will have to be made operate first once of the vocal cords following the many howls that it éructe on the major part of the songs. Serious artistic dissensions appear then within the group bringing to the successive departures of Frederic Vidalenc (replaced by Jean Paul Roy) and of the manager Jean-Marc Gouaux (ex to manage Silens Camera groups punk of Bordeaux, places from there since 2002).
In 1997, the group reconsiders the front of the scene with 666.667 Club which, without disavowing its rock'n'roll without concession offers to him a second great media success with in particular the titles One day in France or the Man in a hurry . The group assumes better its fame which enables him to defend at the same time of the associative causes, and does not move away it for all that of their public. The round which follows also concludes for the singer… by a new operation from the vocal cords. However, maturity helping, Noir Desire open at other horizons, by initially publishing an album of remixes, One Trip/One Noise , then its last album studio to date, Of the Faces, Figures . This opus comprises, like its predecessors, of many guests: Nicolas Sansano, Akosh Szelevényi, Manu Chao, Romain Humeau, Bob Coke, and Brigitte Fontaine (and during the following round, the group will be joined full-time by Christophe Perruchi with the keyboards). Forsaking the very electric sound of the two preceding albums for softer and mélodieuses tonalities, work is greeted by the whole of criticism, and the public follows this new orientation massively: individual the the wind will carry us is classified number three in France.
Beyond the evolution of its musical style, Noir Desire remains characterized by worked texts, written by Bertrand Cantat, where homophonies mix, of very many puns and pastiches to form a poetic prose of a very particular richness and a force, often thanks to the Parlé/sung.
Black Desire, a militant group
Noir Désir is also a militant group against the capitalist Mondialisation ( The Holy Economic War , the Man in a hurry , Europe ) and against the Fascisme ( Here It Comes Slowly , One day in France ).
At the time of the ceremony of the Victories of the music, Bertrand Cantat is illustrated by fustigating Jean-Marie Messier, then president of Vivendi Universal, distributer and producer of Black Desire. “We live on same planet, but we are definitely not same world” it declared, at the sides of Jean-Luc Delarue, suddenly disorientated presenter. The group also took part in several caritative concerts and the events of April 2002.
A group far from the end
On Monday, March 29 2004, Bertrand Cantat is condemned by the firm court of Vilnius to eight years of prison for the manslaughter on Marie Trintignant to Vilnius the night from July 26th to 27th 2003. Two years after the drama, the group finalizes nevertheless a project started in 2002 by publishing double CD, Noir Desire in public , and a double DVD, Noir Desire in images , resulting from its last round. The two albums reach the first places of the classifications of sale during several weeks, the DVD carried out by Don Kent gains as for him the musical DVD of the year to the Victoires of the music 2006.At the end of 2005, the group (without Bertrand Cantat) works on the BO of the film Enfermés outside (left the April 5th 2006), of Albert Dupontel. The titles 7 minutes , Forgotten and On the way for the joy , resulting from the repertory of the group, are also reproduced on theoriginal one of film.
In October 2005, the members of the group entrust in a musical magazine the possibility of bringing out an album in the years to come, at the coming out of prison of Bertrand Cantat. By leaving all the same a flat on the fact of remaking scene. By contract, they must indeed still carry out an album with their recording company Barclay (Universal Music).
On May 25th, 26th and 27th 2006, association “the Wild boars is released” and ND Music, organizes the Appointments of New Grounds, a festival of music and meetings citizens. The beater Denis Barthe and the bass player Frederic Vidalenc rejoué for the first time, together, on scene, and since the separation of Black Desire, at the time of this festival. The 2nd edition of the festival takes place October 10th and 11th 2007.
