Biography
Rene Bazin is law professor with the free Faculty of Angers. Several times prize winner of the French Academy, in particular for its novel a spot of ink in 1888, it publishes books of voyages and collaborates in the Review of the Two Worlds like to various newspapers. After 1870, it is one of the writers of “revenge” with Oberlé and the Guide of the Emperor . He is elected member of the French Academy in 1903, after the success of the Oberlé (1901). However, in 1919, after the war, in “ new Oberlé ”, it writes a table, all in nuances, discovery of France by an Alsatian young person who chose to fight in the French Army.
These novels generally have as a framework the rural environment and peasant of the west of France. It described there the fight of Catholicism and the traditional values against the city, progress, atheism, revolutionary contagion, thus fitting in the agrarian mobility which will inspire then the mode of Vichy.
For example, the Earth which dies , published in 1899, evokes the drama of a doubly abandoned agricultural domain: on the one hand, by the great landowner who goes to Paris, and which, ruined, must sell to its pieces of furniture, and on the other hand by wire of the sharecropper in charge of the farm (one emigrates in America, the other becomes railwayman). However, ground finally " meurt" not, since the servant Jean Nesmy, accepted like son-in-law by the sharecropper after some reserves, takes again finally the exploitation.
Herve Bazin, also writer, was the great nephew of Rene Bazin.
