The Bishnoïs (or Vishnoï ) - of bish , twenty and noï , nine in a dialectal form of the Hindi -, are the members of a community created by the guru Jambeshwar Bhagavan , commonly called Jambaji (1451 -?), especially presents in the state of the the Rajasthan, mainly in the areas of Jodhpur and Bîkâner, and to a lesser extent in the neighboring state of the Haryana in India. Bishnoïs are Hindu which follow twenty-nine principles, from where them name, enacted by their guru and are characterized by their Végétarisme, their strict respect of any form of life (non-violence, ahimsa ), their protection of the animals as well as trees, their adoption of an appropriate dress particular.

The community bishnoï knew serious problems when the outside world can put at evil their principles.

It thus keeps in memory an event which proceeded at the 18th century, in 1730, when the Mahârâja Ajit Singh de Jodhpur sent wood cutters (soldiers) in the villages to the neighborhoods, to cut the large trees, in particular the khezri , among the most famous trees of the Désert: it needed wood for its pieces of furniture
