Biscarrosse

Biscarrosse is a common French, located in the department of the Landes and the area Aquitaine. Its name comes from Biscarrués = field of the Tertre (see French Toponymie).

Geography

Biscarrosse is located in Pays of Born between the lake of Cazaux and the lake of Parentis.

Biscarrosse can be divided into three parts:

Biscarrosse-Borough enters the two big lakes,
the Seaside resort of Biscarrosse-Beach on the Atlantic Ocean,
the residential districts of Biscarrosse-Lake around the Lac of Cazaux-Sanguinet.

History

Biscarrosse was in first half of the 20th century the base of the seaplanes Latécoère. The Air-mail , then the transport of passengers, in particular the company Air France took off of the Lake Parentis-Biscarrosse, also called Lac Latécoère.

After the disappearance of the transatlantic seaplanes and their replacement by terrestrial planes, the base of Biscarrosse was closed.

Economy

Traditionally based on the cut of the pines of the forest of the Moors, since its plantation by Nicolas Brémontier, the economy biscarrossaise is now largely turned towards balneal estival tourism.

the Center of Tests of the Moors (CONCEALMENT) is located between Biscarrosse-beach and Mimizan - beach and between the Atlantic Ocean and the pond of Biscarrosse and Parentis. This center of the General delegation for Armament (DGA) is specialized in in-flight tests and terrestrial of missiles for the industrialists and customers of the Ministry for Defense, as well as the drive of the armed forces.

* the city has an antenna of the Chamber of commerce and industry of the Moors.

Biscarrosse has four school S primary educations:

Meyrie School, with the borough
Pierricq School, the borough
School the Small Prince, with the borough
School of the Beach with Biscarrosse-Beach

As well as a college:

College Jean Mermoz, to the borough
in 2006, to face the evolution of the commune (12.500 inhabitants approximately with last estimate INSEE of 2005), a new college will be built in the north of the commune.

Personalities related to the commune

Pierre-Georges Latécoère establishes in Biscarrosse a base of assembly of Hydravion S. Of the transatlantic flights will leave the Lake Biscarrosse-Parentis, also known in Biscarrosse under the name of lake Latécoère.
