Biosphere (Montreal)
The Biosphère of Environnement Canada is a museum of the environment located on the island Sainte-Hélène in Montreal, in the old house of the the United States of the Expo 67.
The design of the the geodetic Dome of the Biosphere, most imposing from the kind in the world, comes from the architect Richard Buckminster Fuller.
History
Symbol of Expo 67, the sphere of the architect visionary Buckminster Fuller marks one capital moment in the History of the contemporary architecture. It is about the most important building of this type in the world. Its structure reproduces more than 75% of the sphere.
In 1976, a fire consumed the polymer coating. The structure, built out of steel, is remained usable and is all that remains old house.
The museum was inaugurated in 1995 and present of the interactive activities and the exposures on the great environmental stakes connected to water, with the Climate changes, the Sustainable development and responsible consumption.
The Biosphere also offers a program youth to the school complexes and extra-curricular, composed of educational activities which can be realized on the spot, in class, natural environment or remote.
The Biosphere is a place privileged for better including/understanding the great environmental stakes, for of which those related on water, the air, the climate changes, sustainable development and consumption responsible.
