A biopsy is a Medical examination which consists in taking a portion of fabric of a Organe, in order to be able to study it (in Histologie or Biochimie generally). The majority of the biopsies are painless (digestive biopsy during a Endoscopie, bronchial biopsy during a pulmonary Fibroscopie for example). Those which can be painful (cutaneous biopsy, salivary biopsy, etc) make after a Local anesthesia.

Certain biopsies cannot be done with the assistance of the sight (major biopsy, for example) and are thus carried out under echographic control or scannographic. The biopsies of the Cerveau can be done via a device of Stéréotaxie which ensures the precision necessary for the taking away.

The principal interest of the biopsy is to deliver an objective opinion at the end of its study. Certain diseases require a diagnosis some (like the Cancer S), that only a biopsy can bring. In the case of the Cancer S, the histological study makes it possible to see the cancer cells, and thus to begin a treatment which one knows justified.
