Biological Food

A biological food is a Aliment produced according to the principles of the Organic farming.

The ministry for agriculture created a standard " bio" with the logo “AB” which indicates food not containing chemical elements of synthesis. There exists a tolerance of 5% for the ingredients like the sea salt which, without being biological food stricto sensus, are natural products without chemical element of synthesis added by the man.

In the field of the nutritional value, a report/ratio of 2003 of the French Agence of public health of the food (AFSSA) concluded that “the available data showed, from general manner, for limited situations, few differences significant, and reproducible, between the chemical composition of the raw materials resulting from organic farming and those resulting from conventional agriculture. ”. However, in the evaluation of various health hazards (Pesticides, Nitrates, Heavy metals, Mycotoxins, Dioxanes, Veterinary medicinal products, animal Flours, Parasitic), such food profits from a schedule of conditions which makes them overall surer than the products of conventional agriculture

AB and GMO in the European Union

If a product, conventional or biological, contains more than 0,9% of GMO, it must be labelled. Below this value, no indication with the consumer is necessary.

Each Member State remains however free to reinforce its legislation on the products “bio” of its soil.
