Biol

Biol is a common French, located in the department of the Isere and the area the Rhone-Alps.

Its inhabitants is Biolois.

Biol is located at 15 km of Bourgoin-Jallieu, 15 km of Tour-du-Pin

Etymology

The etymology of Biol would be Celtic, " olle" meaning rise and " bi" meaning water, from where probable significance: " The lake enters the collines". The current marshes formed a big lake before being drained at the end of the XVIIIe century.

History

In XVIe and the XVIIe century, the noble family Alleman held the seigniory of Montmartin on which the castle depended. They were also lords of Champier (In the south-west of Biol) and of the marquisat of Be worth (in the North of Biol).

Personalities related to the commune

  • Antonin Gibe (1885 Biol - 1950 Paris): General of aviation. It ordered the flotilla of the Storks in 1915 then in 1916 (group of combat) and recruited inter alia Guynemer, whose currency was: “to face”. He also had a political role in favor of the army and aeronautics.
  • Maurice Saborin (6/3/1933 with Biol): Senior official, prefect since 1982: Cantal, Guadeloupe, Meuse (treasurer-payer-general) and Finistere since 1988
