Biocoop

Biocoop is an abbreviation of the two words “Biological” and “Co-operative”. A Biocoop indicates a store pertaining to the co-operative network of Biocoops, which sells products resulting from the Organic farming and Equitable trade.

In the beginning, an association law 1901, Biocoop was founded in 1987 by co-operative business enterprises and buying associations which supplied consumers in biological products. Since 2002, association became a co-operative public limit company.

The Biocoop stores meet around a charter which frames the whole of their activities around the following pillars:

  • development of a durable Organic farming;
  • commercial relations equitable;
  • quality of the products and participation of the consom' actors .

This network of independent stores accounts for approximately 12% of the turnover carried out into food bio in France. Approximately 8.000 products are referred and the network employs more than 2.120 paid.

In October 2007, there were 283 sales outlets in France.

Many Biocoop stores are members of the Réseau To leave the nuclear power.
