Bimota Tesi
The Tesi is a model of Motocyclette, produced by the manufacturer Italy N Bimota.
The first Tesi 1/D of road appears with the living room of Cologne of 1990.
The design is entrusted to Massimo Tamburini.
It is motorized by Ducati, taking again an engine of 851.
But the principal innovation of this machine, it is to propose a part cycles not very conventional. It has a direction in the hub of the wheel, and where, contrary to a telescopic fork, damping is dissociated from guidance. Both oscillating Bras S are connected by a cadre Omega. It is certainly not the first time that this technique is used, in particular by ELF, but, until now, it had never left the enclosure of the circuits. With Tesi, Bimota transposes it on an approved machine.
The system of direction in the hub was the subject of thesis of the designer Pierluigi Marconi for its examination of engineer at the university of Bologna. When it enters to the service of Bimota to apply its thesis, it is quite naturally that it names its Tesi motor bike.
Very sensitive to the least variation of adjustment, the shock absorbers must be of good quality. In fact Öhlins elements were chosen by the Italian factory to fulfill this function.
The castor angle can varied 30°. Braking is ensured by two discs of 320 mm with before and a disc of 230 mm, all of mark Brembo. The Jante S with three branches in Aluminum are signed Marchesini.
A second version leaves a few weeks after the first. The cubic capacity of the engine passes to 904 cm ³. The power climbs with 113 horses with 8 500 tr/min. It and announced for 250 km/h. It was sold 22 810 €.
The factory produced 127 Tesi 851 cm ³ and 20 Tesi 904 cm ³, all white and red.
In 1991, Tesi 1/D SR is its replacing. The engine is always that of the 851 worked over again, delivering 117 horses with 9 000 tr/min and 10,5 mkg of couple. The weight goes down to 188 dry kg and the tank loses 4 capacity liters. 164 specimens were produced, sold 22 946 €.
At the time of the living room of Cologne of 1992, to celebrate the 20 years of the mark, the Tesi 1/D ES (for Edizione Special) is born. Esthetics, more fluid, was modified and entrusted to Giorgetto Giugiaro. Mechanically, Tesi 1/D ES is distinguished from its devancières by an oscillating arm before machined in the mass and forged either like by a shock absorber before specifically designed for Tesi at Öhlins by an old driver of Grand Prix. The electronic Injection Weber is replaced by one of Bimota. design The engine develops 117 horses with 9 000 tr/min. The rims are of Akron. Only 50 specimens will be produced, for 23 335 € each one.
The Tesi 1/D EFF (Final Edition) is born for the living room from Cologne from 1994. This last evolution is in fact Tesi 1/D ES available only in one delivered gray anthracite to orange nets. It will be produced only with 25 specimens, of which the first, delivered to the Italian journalist Giorgio Sarti (large collector of Bimota and author of a reference book on the mark), is equipped with a semi-careenage which lets admire two aluminum platinums, machined in the shape of omega, constituting the framework of Tesi, as well as the complex mechanics of the nose gear. The carbon fiber recovers the exhaust box. It is sold 25 265 €.
The Japan profits from Tesi special, adapted to the local constraints of homologation. This machine is the Tesi 1/D 400J and is been driven by an engine of 400 cm ³ resulting from the Ducati 400 S. In September 2002, Ascanio Rodorigo, after having worked at Bimota, then founded its company of preparation of motor bike for the competition, ARP, decides to produce its own Tesi. It presents its work later three months, at the time of Padova Show. The prototype is called Vyrus because of the fever which it gave to these originators during his manufacture.
The system of direction is improved. If the first version of Tesi were very sensitive to the change of adjustment and on which the suspensions were rêglées very hard to privilege stability with high-speeds, its junior offers a greater comfort and an effective damping.
Vyrus is always motorized by a twin-cylinder out of V with 90° of Ducati origin, resulting from now on from Ducati 1000 S. This engine develops 90,5 horses. It is fed by an electronic system of injection of 54 mm in diameter.
The castor angle is adjustable, of 18 with 24°, making pass the hunting of 80 to 106 Misters the footing is of 1 365 Misters.
The shock absorbers are of mark Double System and are adjustable in prestressing, relaxation and compression.
Braking is ensured by two floating discs of 320 mm in diameter with before and a single fixed-head disk of 310 mm, bitten respectively by Brembo clamps to four and two pistons. Contrary to the current trend, these clamps do not have a radial fixing.
The dry weight is brought back to 150 kg. The tank makes only 16 liters, including 3 of réserve. Vyrus is chaussee in 120/75 x 17 and 180/50 x 17.
Contrary to its devancières, the Tesi news is deprived of careenage, leaving the sight on the Omega framework in Aluminum, the engine and the two arms oscillating. In 2004, Vyrus adopts the engine of the Ducati 999 R. It develops 150 horses. If the part cycles remainder the same one, the footing gains 10 mm, the back tire makes from now on 190 mm broad and the weight passes to 157 kg. The tank passes to 14,5 liters. The exhaust is not any more under the engine, but is duplicated and is brought back under the saddle.
During 2006, an agreement is signed between Vyrus and Bimota. The first manufactures the motor bikes, the second markets them in his réseau. The customer thus has the choice. He can buy Bimota Tesi 2/D , with the engine of 992 cm ³ cooled by air for 46 000 € If not it can buy Vyrus, available in two versions. That is to say the 984 C ³ 2V and the engine of 992 cm ³, two Valve S by cylinder and cooled by air, is the 985 C ³ 4V and its engine of 999 cm ³, four valves by cylinder and liquid cooling. They are respectively sold 33 750 and 54 750 €.
The living room of Milan 2006 sees the presentation of the Tesi 3D . Main development relates to the front oscillating arm. It is from now on a tubular lattice anchored on aluminum platinums. The engine is borrowed from Ducati 1100 Multistrada and develops 97 CH with 8 500 tr/min with the Crankshaft, louse a couple of 10,5 mkg with 4 750 tr/min. The Grimeca clamps become with radial fixing with the front one. The footing is brought back to 1 387 Misters the two shock absorbers come from the catalog Extreme Tech and the nose gear wheels and back have as a clearance 115 and 130 Misters the Marvic rims out of forged aluminum are fitted of Continental tire of 125/70 x 17 with before and 190/50 x 17 with the back. The height of saddle is of 800 mm. The preparing is entirely out of carbon. The triangular exhaust boxes are brought back under the selle. The version of preproduction, called Concept, is produced with twenty-nine specimens in April 2007. It receives a gold plate engraved of the name of the owner and serial number, for 28 900 €. A more accessible version is planned for 2008.
