Bilma

Bilma is a city Oasis the North-East of the Niger. It was a stage in the Trans-Saharan trade with the Middle Ages. The great richness of Bilma was its sources of Timero, Tchi-intchiyé, Aboubou, Tchololo, etc and its surrounding saltworks. The presence of water allows rich person plantations of date palms.

Bilma was one of the main cities of the Kanouris and a rich person crossroads of caravans. West, the crossing lasted 25 days since Agadez through the dunes of the Ténéré. The Touaregs brought there products of the south, millet, gold, slaves also and brought back salt and dates of them to back of camel.

The insulation of Bilma made of it the destination of the civils servant in disgrace under the authoritarian regime of Seyni Kountché. A prison is installed there. Political personalities also were held in Bilma in the year 1980 like Sanoussi Tambari Djakou, current president of PNA-Al Ouma, a political party of Niger.
