Bill Chase (William Edward Chiaiese) is a Trompettiste of American Jazz born the October 20th 1934 with Squantum (Massachusetts) and deceased in an air crash the August 9th 1974 with Jackson (Minnesota).

Biography

Born in a family of Italian origin (her true name is Chiaiese), wire of a musician of “Gillette Marching Band”, Bill Chase starts to learn the Violon. It is only at the time of its entry to the college that it is put at the Trompette. He studies then in “New England Conservatory” then with the “Berklee School off Music”. Its model at the time is the specialist in overshrill the Maynard Ferguson. In 1957, is engaged besides in the Big band of this last, on the council of Herb Pomeroy, one of its professors with Berkley. One can then hear it in a military orchestra, in a combo directed by Woody Hermann. In 1958, it turns over to Ferguson, before joining, briefly, the big band of Stan Kenton.

In 1959, it joined new the Big band of Woody Hermann (“Thundering Herd”) of which, during years, it is at the same time the “lead Trumpet” and one of the soloists high-speed motorboats. It remains in the orchestra until 1969.

After its departure from Hermann, Bill Chase is briefly musician “free lance” with Las Vegas where it accompanies with singers like Vic Damone or Johnny Carson.

In 1970, it forms its own group “ Chase ” (1 singer, 4 trumpet players and a Rhythm section) which specializes in the Jazz fusion. This orchestra is rather quickly success. The title “ Get it one ” becomes even a tube in 1971. Unfortunately, Bill Drives out and several members of its formation find death in an air crash in 1974.

Style

Excel technician, having an exceptional control of the overshrill register of the trumpet (what explains its employment like “lead Trumpet” in big band), Bill Chase was also a soloist shining and a charismatic “showman”.
