Bill Bruford

Beater British born with Sevenoaks in the Kent the May 17th 1949, it is especially known general public for its collaborations with Yes at the beginning of the Années 1970 (The Yes album, Fragile and Close to the Edge) and with King Crimson sporadically of 1972 with 1998 (Larks' Tongues in Aspic, Red (album) and Discipline inter alia). Its passion first energy for the Jazz, its style of play was always characterized by a not very common creativity at the beaters rock'n'roll.

Technique of the very precise clear case, Bill often practices curly and rolled, far from the used ones in the style rock'n'roll. Skin of tended the enough clear case, often struck the edge with force and clearness. Bill has a perfect command of odd or asymmetrical measurements: this practice was employed towards the end of its stay at Yes (album Fragile and Close to the Edge), and will perdurera in the albums recorded under its name (" Feels Good to Me" , " Gradualy going Tornado" ; " One off has Kind"), like in the albums of the " Trilogie" King Crimson of the Eighties (" Discipline" ; " Beat" , and " Three Of has Perfect Pair").

Bill Bruford also formed part of the group of Jazz fusion, Bruford Levin Upper Extremities, at the sides of his/her colleague of King Crimson and bass player Tony Levin, of the guitarist David Torn and the trumpet player Chris Botti.

In 1976, it takes part as guest with the round of Genesis, holding the battery to replace (or sometimes jointly with) Phil Collins become singer of the group. Of this round, one will find trace on the two double-albums live " Second Out" (the piece " Show" cinema;) and Three Sides Live (the medley " It/Watcher Off The Skies").

Since 1985, Bill Bruford returned to its first jazzistic loves, by forming its own quartet " Earthworks" , with various musicians of the English scene: Django Packsaddlled and Iain Ballamy in the first formula of the group (dissolved in 1993), marked by the use by Bruford of an electronic kit, then in the second (made up in 1998) Steve Hamilton (piano), Patrick Clahar (ts), and Mark Hodgson (cb), and currently Tim Garland (ts), Laurence Cottle (eb), Gwilym Simcock (pno). Resolutely jazz, its music remains in spite of very characterized by the " drumming" so original of Bill Bruford, and an obvious filiation with the progressive rock'n'roll of the years 70-80.

Principal productions All Heaven Broke Loose, 1993 " With Share, and Yet Apart" (1999) " The Sound off Surprise" (2001) " Footloose and Fancy Free" /" Footloose in NYC " (2002) " Random Acts off Happiness" (2004)
