Bilchilde (girl of Rorgon Ier of Maine)

See also: Bilichilde

The Historia Inventionis Sanctii Baudelli announces that the prince Bernard de Gothie had an uncle named Gauzlin which had been abbot, then bishop. from this mention the existence was deduced from a girl of the count Rorgon Ier of Maine and his Bilchide wife which would have married the count Bernard Poitevin. For reasons onomastics, one considers that this woman rorgonide would name Bilichilde .

She married thus the count Bernard Poitevin, († 844) and gave rise to:

A text of Abbon mentions that Ebles, abbot of Saint-Denis, wire of Ramnulf Ier, was nepos of Gauzlin, wire of the count Rorgon Ist Another text, of Adhémar, precise that Ramnulf Ier was a cousin ( consanguineus ) of Raino II, count d' Herbauges. This term of consanguineus excludes a priori a relationship by alliance, which is proposed by the first assumption. Several assumptions were put forth to explain this relationship:

  1. Ramnulf Ier of Poitiers married a girl of Rorgon Ier and Bilichilde; either Bilichilde, widow of Bernard, or another anonymous sister.
  2. the mother of Ramnulf Ier is a girl of Rorgon Ier and Rotrude, the chronology being opposed so that Ramnulf is grandson of Bilichilde.
The two assumptions are excluded: Ramnulf Ier could not wife the half-sister of her mother. The text of Adhémar tends to say that it is Ramnulf which is cousin and not his wife, which would tend to privilege the second assumption.

In any case, the woman of Ramnulf Ier, whatever it is, was the mother of:
