Bilateralism

The bilateralism is one of the laws of the gesture and the memory, highlighted by Marcel Jousse.
Definition
Bilatéralisme is the law of the swinging , consequence of triple bilateralism of the human body: right-hand side-left, before-back, haut-bas, and of the existence of its two feet and its two hands. It is the law of the man upright, being devoted to its essential activity: to leave to discovered the world which surrounds it to dominate it economically, intellectually and spiritually. This exploration of reality, the man achieves it while being started, i.e. by putting a foot in front of the other and while being balanced alternatively in the axis right-hand side-left while progressing in the before-back axis. This physical step, characteristic of the man, deeply works it at the point to influence all its thought processes and spiritual. Physical step and thought processe are dependant because they are both a body swinging from right to left and from left to right and that the swinging of physical walk facilitates the swinging of the thought processe. It is what all the great traditions included/understood of instinct and used in a brilliant way: to know, to memorize, transmit, be expressed, Anthropos must be balanced.
Applications
The training
This is why all the great traditions of oral style balance their improvisations and their recitations, by accompanying them by a body swinging, following the three axes of the bilateralism of the human body and in accordance with the use of the ethnic medium. Since centuries, the Jews balance to them Tôrâh, the Moslems balance to them Coran, the Hindus balance their Védas… As the highlight Marcel Jousse, body swinging is the effective base of very memory. The small child feels it instinct, him which is balanced to learn its lessons.
Parallelism
But it is not simply its body which the man is brought to balance, it is all its expression. It is a universal law, in the mediums of oral style: an improviser or a recitator cannot put forth a first proposal without emitting of it at once a second, even a third, either synonymic, or antithetic, or synthetic. It is the phenomenon of the parallelism , observed well before Marcel Jousse but that only this one knew to attach to triple bilateralism of the human body and its omnipresent swinging. This parallelism is exerted besides, not only on the level of the proposals, but also on the level of a whole of proposals, to create the phenomenon of the parallel récitatifs.
The thought
More deeply still, this swinging is exerted on the level even human thought. To think, it is étymologiquement to weigh , i.e. to balance. The human thought is a perpetual swinging between what is played outside me and what is played inside me and, inside me, between what was played and what I test of in rejouer, to become aware and to express it of it. To compare, to oppose consist of a ceaseless to and from between two objects to be able to differentiate them, classify them, conceptualize them.
