The bikini is a type of female Bathing suit in two parts, leaving the belly discovered from where its nickname of bathing suit two parts . The higher element covers the Sein S and part of the bust or back. It can comprise one or more straps and its form is comparable with that of the bras. The lower element covers at least the Pubis and the Fesse S. Its form is comparable with that of the panties.

History

Louis Réard invented the bikini and presented it for the first time to Paris on July 5th, 1946 to the Piscine Molitor carried by Micheline Bernardini, a famous naked dancer of the Casino of Paris. He stated to have chosen the name of Bikini in reference to the atoll of the same name on which five days before a nuclear explosion had taken place; hoping that the effect of mode of this new product would be comparable with that of the explosion which had just taken place.

Louis Réard deposited a Brevet to protect his creation. However, as the photograph shows it opposite, this clothing was already known since of Antiquity: the archeologists, as from the years 1920, updated, in the villa of Casale in Sicily, of the mosaics representing of the women playing in bikini. The bikini, definite like “smaller than smallest of the shirts of the world”, was accepted with difficulty by the moral authorities and nuns of the time. It did not obtain with its creation a real success; it was a cultural shock and the sulfurous bathing suit was even prohibited on certain beaches in Europe.

It was necessary to await the second launching at the beginning of the Années 1960 so that it becomes popular and constitutes one of the greatest phenomena of mode. In 1956, Brigitte Bardot made it popular in the film And God… created the woman in whom it carried it in Vichy fabric. Many French young girls wanted to imitate it. A song with success to him was even devoted Itsy Bitsy Teenie Weenie Yellow Polka Dowry Bikini of Brian Hyland, Reprise again in French by Dalida like by Brigitte Bardot and Richard Anthony: Itsy bitsy, small Bikini .

In 1962, the actress Ursula Andress makes of them a world success in film “James Bond 007 against Dr. No”: dried, its famous white bikini was sold with the biddings at Christie' S in 2001 for the sum of 41.250 pounds sterling.

Alternatives

Since the end of the 20th century, this Vêtement largely entered manners. It is sometimes supplanted by the topless swimsuit , its alternative without higher part. The topless swimsuit consists in nothing relating to the upper part and its use varies according to the countries and the traditions. The Brazilian bathing suit is a sexier alternative of the bikini very present in South America. The breeches are smaller, halfway between the Slip and the String. There exists also the Microkini (or String of bath) which consists in replacing the breeches by string.
