Big room of France

It is important when one speaks about the Big room of France , to distinguish two obediences.

The Big room of France of 1738

It was the first founded maconnic obedience in France in 1738. However, it seems that the Duc of Wharton had come in the kingdom in 1728 to organize the rites.

It was not however at its all beginnings a true maconnic obedience, but rather the cabin of the Large-Master of all the cabins of France, whose decisions applied to the score of cabins present in Paris and were more or less well followed by those of province. It is not that in 1763 qu ' it will publish its Statutes and Payments observed by the G.˙.L.˙ of France and all the widespread particular LL.˙ in the kingdom .

In 1773, it reorganized and took the name of Grand the East of France which is the leader of liberal and adogmatic freemasonry today. Other authors write that it was acted in fact of an inversion of the Big room of France, the elections being made without mandate and the impulse having incipient without the Masters from province. Under the Empire all the maconnic organizations “were invited” by the authorities to melt in the Great East only authorized maconnic power.

The Big room of current France

The GLDF was founded in 1894 pennies the impulse of the cabins of the North of the Central Big room of the Supreme Council of France (SCDF, founded maconnic power in 1804 manager high ranks of the Scottish Rite Old and Accepted in France). It is resulting from the Central Big room of the Supreme Council of France, together of cabins " écossaises" remained faithful to the SCDF (vis-a-vis the Supreme Council of the Large College of the Rites of the Great East of France and with the Big room Scottish Symbolic system) and was joined by almost all the cabins of the Big room Scottish Symbolic system (it is one of the workshops of this obedience which after having left it initiated Maria Deraismes, first woman freemason and cofondatrice of the Human right) become Big room Symbolic system of France. Autonomy supplements and the recognition of other obediences came later, in 1905.

The GLDF is a federation of cabins working with the same rite. With some very rare exceptions, the workshops of the GLDF practice the Scottish Rite Old and Accepted (REAA) in its first three degrees, which are those of universal Freemasonry , known as also symbolic system : Apprentice, Companion and Master.

The GLDF respects the old duties and part of the BASIC Principles fixed by the Plain Big room of England (UGLE) in 1929. It belongs to traditional Freemasonry, but tends to a certain adogmatism. She works " with the Glory of the Great architect of Univers" that it indicates as a creative principle that its members are free to interpret according to their convictions or sensitivities. One thus finds deists, theists, agnostics and even of the atheists having a vision naturalist of this concept. The GLDF thus regards as regular apart from the network of exclusive mutual recognition of the UGLE.

The GLDF proposes a diffused radio broadcast third Sunday of each month in " Various aspects of the thought contemporaine" on France Culture. It publishes a quarterly review intended for all, entitled '' Points of view of Intitiatiques '' (PVI), as well as a monthly newspaper reserved for its members.

The GLDF and GLTSO are on the initiative of creation, in 2000, of the Confédération of the Plain Big rooms of Europe gathering Big rooms traditional symbolic systems not recognized by GLUA.
