Big lakes landais

The Big lakes landais are ponds located in the Landes of Gascogne, in Médoc, Pays of Buch and Pays of Born.

They were formed following the ponding coming from the plain of the Moors to the back of the dune cord, the water flow not being sufficient to cross the littoral dunes.

Presentation

The Big lakes landais are five:
  • the lake of Hourtin-Yokes

  • the Lake Lacanau
  • the Lake Cazaux
  • the Lake Parentis
  • the Lake Aureilhan

Only the Basin of Arcachon, supplied with the Leyre and various Craste S, was not closed again. The Basin is a singularity corresponding to the delta of Leyre, by which the water of the Ocean returns daily to the likings of the tides.
