Big Day Out

The Big Day Out ( BDO ) is a festival which takes place each year in Australia and in New Zealand. Usually, of many groups of contemporary Rock'n'roll and Electronic music occur there.

History

The festival is born in 1992 with Sydney, and is extended to Melbourne, Perth and Adélaïde in 1993. In 1994, Auckland, in New Zealand, and the Gold Coast come to be added to the list. Following the advertisement of the end of the festival in 1997, some instigators (Vivian Less and Ken West) tried to organize a festival with dedicated to the electronic musics, but the festival was cancelled. Finally, Big Day Out reappears in 1999.

Among the artists who occurred on the scenes of the festival, one finds the Smashing Pumpkins, the Red Hot Chili Peppers, The Ramones, Nirvana, Jurassic 5, At the drive-in, The Mars Volta, Rage Against The Machine, The Vines, Deftones, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, Marilyn Manson, Queens Off The Stone Age, PJ Harvey, Rammstein, Coldplay, KoЯn, The White Stripes, Hole , System off has Down, Nine Inch Nails, Slipknot, Metallica, Blink-182, Joe Strummer, Iggy Pop, Murderdolls, The Living End, The Strokes, Franz Ferdinand, Foo Fighters, Sleater-Kinney, The Flaming Lips, Silverchair, MUSE, Kings off Leon, Tomahawk, Shihad, Henry Rollins, You Am I, Wolfmother, Soundgarden, The Music as well as many others groups of the area. The Chemical Brothers, The Prodigy, Fatboy Slim and Basement Jaxx also played, in the “boiler house” (Boiler Room).
