Biffy Clyro
Biffy Clyro is a group of alternative Rock Scottish originating in Ayr and Kilmarnock. It is composed of three musicians: the guitarist and singer Simon Neil, as well as the twins James (low) and Ben (battery) Johnston.
In spite of an apparent peace on the level of the melodies, those are built around a wall of its enormous, with slack sounds and a powerful battery. When Simon Neil sings, the other members of the trio sing in heart behind, which ensures of the delicate melodies, in spite of a howling voice.
The group quotes itself of the influences such as Sunny Day Real Estate, Rush. As for criticisms, they very often compare them with the group Nirvana.
They recorded four albums and fourteen individual, while turning intensely since 1998. In 2000, their turn first individual " 27" was elected individual of the week by the American group Taproot in stores Kerrang!. Since, they connected successes, returning rather regularly in the British and American charts.
Press coverage
The group was not supported by all the magazines rock'n'roll British and American (which one knows that they have a considerable influence in the success of the groups). Whereas Kerrang! supported them since the beginning (in particular Ashley Bird, a former writer, which adored their music), the New Musical Express train had the same opinion only recently (the album Puzzle being Album of the Week of the edition of the May 26th, 2007). The relations between the group were even relatively tended, after individual the " 27" receives poor critical. Other musical publications, as Q underline the somewhat nauséeuse tendency of the group to choose titles shocking for their songs, for example " Toys, Toys, Toys, Choke, Toys, Toys, Toys" and " Kill The Old, Torture Their Young").
" My the Biffy! "
Biffy Clyro is one of the rare groups to have a kind of slogan. This one is " My the Biffy! " (also " My the Biff! "), and the British public took the practice to howl it during the concerts. It is even sometimes used by the group on scene. It is acted in fact of a typically Scottish simplification of " How one, the Biffy! " (literally: " Go, Biffy").
Arts person influences
The group is also characterized by a deep influence from the literature on the level from the words. Titles of songs and albums like Joy.Discovery.Invention (Chuck Palahniuk) and Infinity Land , come from the concept of paradise of Jeffrey Dahmer. The title of the album The Vertigo Of Bliss is taken of a sentence of the contemporary novel I, Lucifer of Glen Duncan. One can also quote as influences John Donne or Percy Bysshe Shelley.
Side-projects
Simon Neil, under the pseudonym " The Atmosphere" collaborate with JP Reid in another group of Ayrshire: Sucioperro. From a general point of view, the group is invested in the local scene, and attends the other groups of the area.
