Bierzo
Bierzo (El Bierzo) is a comarca (historical area) of the west of the Province of León. Approximately 3.000 km ², it are in a mountainous region between the Cantabric Cordillera, the Mounts of Leon and the Aquiliens Mounts, with several tops of 2.000 Mr.

History
Belonging in Antiquity to the territory of the Astures (people Celtibère), it was occupied by the Romains after a campaign of Octave-Auguste between 29 and 19 Av.J.C.
The Romans developed to with it several gold bearing exploitations which one still sees impressive traces with Las Medulas.
Bierzo is crossed by the Camino francés of the Pèlerinage of Saint-Jacques-to-Compostelle
