Bibiena theater

The Theater Bibiena of Mantoue, still called Teatro Scientifico , was rebuilt in 1769 by Antonio Galli da Bibbiena, at the request of Marie-Therese of Austria.

Located inside the Palate of the Academy Virgilienne (building with the very purified frontage, 1771 with 1775, rebuilt by Piermarini), the theater is regarded as a jewel of the Baroque art of the 18th century. Constituted of four stages, it accommodates with the fifth stages a bibiothèque with invaluable editions of Virgile and a collection of surgical instruments.

History

Its origin goes back to the 16th century, but it fell in ruin at the same time as the house from Gonzagues whose final fall arrived in 1707. When the house of Austria succeeded to him, the vice-chancellor of the Academy of the Shy persons, the count Carlo Ottavio de Colloredo, sent to the representative from Austrian Lombardy in Milan, Carlo de Firmian, a report/ratio charged to make known the state of outdatedness of the place at the same time as an ambitious project of rehabilitation. The report/ratio was transmitted to the Marie-Therese empress who was strong interested party, but the vice-chancellor did not await the final decision of the empress and it decided to demolish, inside the palate of the Academy, which remained theater by widening space to obtain a greater volume. It was a question of finishing some with the Renaissance style (theater in steps) and of modernizing the room according to the fashion of the 17th century, namely of the balconies in stage and a room of orchestra . The unit was to be imposing. Antonio Bibiena resulting from the family of architects of the Bibiena, and which had already traversed all Europe, fully carried out the wishes of the Academy while introducing his imagination baroque.

Mozart inaugurated it at the 14 years age. ----
