Bhut Jolokia

The pepper Bhut Jolokia is a variety of pepper originating in the Assam in the North-East of the India. One cultivates it in India (Assam, Nagaland and Manipur) and with the Bangladesh. According to the Guinness Book of the records, it would be the pepper more pricking of the world, détronant the Red Savina.

At present, genetic research makes doubt that it is a variety of " Capsicum chinense" but rather an hybrid between " Capsicum chinense" (Pepper habanero) and " Capsicum frutescens"

The fruit with maturity measures 6 to 8,5 cm length for 2,2 to 3 cm in diameter. It is of red or orange color. It resembles much the Piment habanero but it is embossed more and its skin is rougher.

Credited with a million units on the Scale of Scoville, with which one measures the force of a Piment, Bhut Jolokia leaves far behind the preceding holder of the record, the Red Savina , twice less spiced. By comparison, the red sauce Tabasco is worth 7.000 units Scoville.
