Bhâgavata Purâna

Also called the Srimad Bhagavatam , the Bhâgavata Purâna makes party of the 18 major purâna-s or Mahâpurâna . For the Vishnouistes, he is regarded as a book crowned as well as the Bhagavad-Gîtâ. It is said that it was composed by Vyasa, the Indian compiler of the crowned texts (Veda-s). A polemic was born in the past between the partisans from the purâna from Durga, the Devi purâna and of Srimad Bhagavatam , in order to know which deserved to be called Bhâgavata-Purâna . Adversaries of the Srimad Bhagavata noticing that the length of this purâna was artificial to reach the 18000 awaited worms. Indeed, the reading of this pûrana surprises since the subject of this book, the life of Krishna, is exposed only starting from the 10th book, the 9 preceding books recalls the genealogy of the heroes, counts myths, tells the life of the avatara-s of Vishnou and exposes the philosophy of the sankhya and the bakti applied to the vishnouism. Another argument of these detractors was that the Srimad Bhagavatam exceeds in the standard of the 5 cacatères (Narration on Creation, the Destruction, the Genealogy, Manus and the dynasties), essential to the puranas, since one can count 10 of them here as this purâna advises it besides (cf Livre XII.7).

Bhâgavata Purâna and Mahâbhârata

The Bhâgavata Purâna is a chief of work of the literature sanskrite, he is very known by the faithful ones thanks to its many adaptations. In the beginning, this purâna was the Mahabharata of the elite. All two consider the same history, but in the Mahâbhârata , Krishna is presented like a hero, not like a god. The Bhâgavata Purâna is surment at the origin of the worship of Krishna , originally simple will avatara of Vishnou , it is shown here like as divine as Vishnou him (the supreme god of the vishnouists) to even see even even higher. Another parallel between the Indian epopee and this purâna is in their composition. Each one integrates a gitâ , a philosophical song. Krishna is always the enonciator of these songs, it exposes same philosophy to it. The Bhagavad-Gitâ of the Mahâbhârata is concidéré as a book of opening, it is placed before the battle of the epopee; the Uddhava Gitâ (XI deliver, 6-29) as for him, is placed at the end of the Purâna , Krishna there states last once its recommendations and leaves the world.
