Beynost

History

Among many assumptions, it would seem that the name of Beynost probably has like origin the Latin word Balneus (baths) due to the many existing sources along the Coastal one. At the 12th century, the village was called Beyno then with, Bayno, to take its current name starting from the Revolution. The first dwellings were fixed close to these sources at the neighborhoods of the 1st iron age (800 years before J. - C.), then moved then on the plate. The Roman presence involved a slip of the population towards the slope, probably due to the crossing of the Roman way of Helvétie and Germanic. As from the 10th century, the parishioners of the multiple hamlets meet around the same parish church: Saint-Julien. At the 16th century, one counted approximately 1500 fires. At last century there were many vines on the slope. Thanks to a multitude of small trades dependant in the vicinity of Lyon, our commune did not have to undergo an important rural migration and, at the end of the 19th century, one found there many small workshops family of trades related to textile industry (hand braid makers, dyers, weavers…). The development of transport (railway line in second half of the 19th century, then tram line at the beginning of) contributed to the increase in multiple in particular agricultural activities (milk and breeding, market gardening of which the garden pea of Beynost which belongs to our traditions. Geography

Beynost belongs to coastal which borders the low plain of Ain and of the Rhone, in the south of Dombes and 1/4 of Lyon time by has 42 This situation represents an essential asset. Indeed, Beynost is in the center of an exceptional communication network road and highway: to 1/4 H of Lyon by has 42 and with 3/4h of Borough-in-Bresse, near skirting is of Lyon (has 46) and connected to the airport of Saint Exupéry (A432).
