Bevel (music)

See also: Bevel

A Musical instrument whose sound is created by the Vibration of the air being split on a bevel belongs to the family of the flutes. Channeled by a conduit or directly directed by the lips of the instrumentalist, the airflow is put in vibration on the wall which constitutes the edge. The air volume displacement can come from the mouth, sometimes of the nose, or of a mechanical blower and projects itself against an edge sharpened like a Anche (but fixed) or the edge of the pipe which acts as bevel .

The bevel can be:

  • right carved in a window like that of the Recorder,
  • in notch of various forms like that cut on the edge of the pipe of the Quena of the Peruvian Andes,
  • out of ring like that of the mouth of the Flute.
