Beuvry

• the Town of BEUVRY was seen allotting the Military Cross 1914-18 and 1939-45.
• the town of BEUVRY WAS AMALGAMATED with the town of BETHUNE at the end of 1993 . Beuvry was not thus any more one city profiting from its own municipal capacities. Beuvrygeois showed, on several occasions, their deep dissatisfaction with this decision with the Municipal council with the time. This resulted in: communal elections of 1995, petitions of 1995 and 1996, the election in October 1996 of the special subcommittee charged to deliver an opinion on a draft amendment of the territorial limits of the commune of Béthune for the erection of the common partner of Beuvry in distinct commune , the communal election of September 1997,… the " DEFUSION " allowing the " associée" commune; from BEUVRY to become again independent but also a City with whole share was obtained in November 1997.

Personalities related to the commune

• No5el Josèphe, former deputy mayor of Beuvry, former president of the district council Nord-Pas-de-Calais, former general adviser of the Pas-de-Calais, former national secretary of the Socialist party. Chevalier of the Legion of Honor, No5el Josèphe was combatant voluntary of Resistance, Voix network of North. He died the March 23rd 2006 in his four-twenty-sixth year.
