Between-two-Seas
The Between-two-Seas is an area of the department of the the Gironde located on a crumpling ranging between the Dordogne and the Garonne. Chopped by their many small Affluent S, it offers a very undulating landscape. The name Between-two-Seas comes from the effects of the phenomenon of Mascaret, during which the sea goes up the courses of the the Garonne and the the Dordogne on several kilometers.
The Between-two-Seas is bordered in the south by the Bazadais, in the west by the Bordelais, in north by the Fronsadais, Libournais and Castillonnais and finally is prolonged in the east towards the Périgord.
This denomination is popularized by the wine name of dry white wine correspondent with this area (with the First coasts of Bordeaux and names of Vin marrowy vis-a-vis the Sauternais).
The south-east of the area is called High Between-two-Seas . This small country centered on the low valley of the Dropt, prolongs in north the Bazadais. At the 3rd century, it belonged to the Novempopulanie whereas the west of the area was, like the Of Bordeaux one, allotted to the Aquitaine second.
This area of Gascon tradition , belonged to the Guyenne of Gironde.
