Betty Williams

Betty Williams is pacifist, north-Irish, born on May 22nd 1943 with Dublin (Ireland).

It founds with the catholic Mairead Corrigan the Movement of the women for the peace of Northern Ireland (Women' S Peace Movement).

In August 1966, during a confrontation between the members of WILL GO (Irish Republican Army) and, it organizes it sees dying three children in front of its eyes. Betty Williams and Mairead Corrigan organize a first demonstration then, bringing together 10.000 women of the two confessions. It is quickly crushed by the police force. One week later, a second demonstration takes place in the streets of Belfast, bringing together 35.000 women of the two communities.

Betty Williams receives the Nobel Prize of peace in 1976.
