Betty Davis , born Betty Mabry the July 26th 1945 with Durham (North Carolina), is an American singer of Soul and Funk . She was also the second woman of Miles Davis.
Background
It grows with Pittsburgh in Pennsylvania. In the Sixties, it left for New York and started to work like Mannequin. During this period it met many musicians of which Jimi Hendrix and Sly Stone (singer of Sly and The Family Stone).
Marriage with Miles Davis
It met Miles Davis in 1967 and Maria with him in 1968. This marriage lasted only one year but Betty had much influence on the work of Miles. He will recognize that it helped it for its future musical explorations while making him discover the Rock'n'roll psychedelic Jimi Hendrix and innovative Funk of Sly Stone. For example its album Filles of Kilimanjaro contains a named song Miss Mabry and the cover was carried out starting from several stereotypes of his wife. The influence of Hendrix and more still of Sly Stone on Miles Davis is perceptible on the album Bitches Brew which inaugurates the era of the Jazz fusion. If the origin of the title of the album remains unknown, there see a homage paid by the trumpet player to the creative genius of Betty. The legend wants that Miles had chosen to call the album Witches Brew (Incantation of Witch) but Betty the convainquit to change this title into Bitches Brew (Incantation of Bitches).
Musical career
Following this rupture, Betty left to London to continue its career of mannequin. She wrote texts, the music being her passion since always, then decided to go back to the United States to record with Carlos Santana. In the place it formed a group of funk on the west coast to record its own discs.Its first album, directed funk Betty Davis , leaves in 1973. The song Anti Coils Song brings together the musicians:

It recorded two other albums, They Say I' m Different in 1974) then Nasty Gall in 1975. None of its discs was a success. However, Betty Davis remains a figure worship in particular because of its sexuality extravertie,
Betty stopped then finally the music and turned over to Pennsylvania. Its albums Betty Davis and They Say I' m Different were republished by the label of Seattle Light in the Attic on May 1st, 2007.
Recordings going back to 1979 were then used to compile two other albums, Hangin' Out In Hollywood (1995) and Crashin' From Passion (1996). Best Off, Anti Coils: The Best off Betty Davis , was published in 2000.
It was a true incantation of Funk and a real sex symbol. Its music was samplée inter alia by Ice Cube or Talib Kweli.
Carlos Santana will say of it that it was the first Madonna.
