Betty Applewhite

Betty Applewhite is the name of a fictitious character of the serial Desperate Housewives , played by Alfre Woodard.

History of the character

Betty is an housewife Afro-américain E who will take an important place during season 2 of Desperate Housewives . Former pianist, it agreed to play of the religious partitions during the burial of Rex Van de Kamp following a request for Bree. The reasons of its removal of Chicago in Wisteria Lane are mysterious but which must with the fact that Betty sought a basement dwelling in order to lock up his/her son Caleb. It bought the house since a phone conversation and moved in during the night, thus arousing the interest of the other residents.

During this time, its other wire, Matthew will recontra Danielle Van de Kamp with which it left. Wishing a life " normale" and without secrecies, Matthew and Danielle the most important secrecies of their families told, which caused thereafter a plan constitant to simulate an assault with intent to commit rape on behalf of Caleb. Not being with the current of this plot, Betty decided, for its safety, to poison Caleb, in spite of the love which it carries to her son. But there renonça when it Caleb revealed to him that Matthew had required of him to go to kiss Danielle. After having learned it, Betty decided to lock up Matthew in the basement in the place of Caleb, waiting in front of the part, in the hope to obtain explanations of his/her son. However, Danielle struck Betty with an iron bar, which caused a state of unconsciousness, and released Matthew.

Betty then decided to move with Caleb in middle of the night but was constrained when the police force came to stop them for the murder of Melanie Foster and it is in prison which Betty learned that the assassin of this one was Matthew, a task of blood being found on the jacket of the latter. It then decided to warn Bree, then interned in psychiatric hospital, that his/her daughter, Danielle, would run a great danger. Later, it indeed had a confrontation between Bree and Matthew which pointed it with a revolver but before it draws, Matthew is killed by ball by the police force, informed by Betty.

Finally, Betty finished to make its luggage before taking the road with his/her Caleb son, to start from Wisteria Lane and living peacefully.

  • a relationship apparently came to Betty towards the end from season 2.
  • At the origin, Betty was not to be an Afro-American but the origin of the character was modified when Alfre Woodard was engaged.
