Bettviller
Bettviller ( German Bettweiler in ) is a common French, located in the department of the the Moselle and the basin of life of the Moselle-is.
Geography
With its appendices of Guising and Hoelling, the village of Bettviller extends in country discovered, in the valley of the Bickenalb, in the north of the Rohrbach.
History
The presence of a dozen Gallo-Roman sites and of a Nécropole mérovingienne on the plate dominating Guising testifies to the seniority of the locality.Mentioned in the forms Bedebur in 1157 and Bedeviller in 1496 (oratory), the current village would have been built at the 16th century. Old Parish of the archpriest of Hornbach, last in that of Rohrbach in 1802, the church Saint Martin's day, whose patronage was allocated to the duke of Deux-Ponts, is the church-mother of Rimling until in 1702, of Small-Réderching until in 1804, and is always of Guising and Hoelling.
In spite of the Bombardement S of 1904 and 1945, the village still has an abundant inheritance, even if the church, rebuilt in 1732 and 1770, is restored completely in 1954: monuments coming from old the Cemetery, many crosses of way, several Mill S turning on the Bickenalb, some old farms.
The existence of benches of sandstone on the communal territory, primarily Calcareous, explains the presence of several families of stone masons which followed one another since the 18th century: the Burtscher, Schaller, Shepherd and Demmerle.

- the church Saint Martin's day, rebuilt in 1770 and restored in 1954
- With the crossing of the old way, called Königstrasse , and of the road which connects Bettviller to Urbach, the cross known as Schallerskreutz , gone back to 1770, dominates the small valley of Kahlenbrunn where the career is, which provided until worms 1930 the sandstone of many crosses of the surrounding villages. The beautiful inscription, engraved in capital, which ends in the name of the Sculpteur, Jacob Schaller, is stopped by a naive representation of the Vierge of the pains.
- the Cemetery, still places around the church until in 1985, had preserved from there many Tombe S Des. Following the installation of the accesses of the building and of the construction of a Morgue, a dozen monuments were gathered in the north of the church, along the surrounding wall. Dating from the middle of the 18th century, the monuments of Catharina Behr and Peter Hartmann, deceased in 1741, are the work of same a sculptor. Carved in the sandstone, these Stèle S is decorated in Bas-relief with a Latin cross at the trefoil ends decorated with grosses Fleur S, which are perhaps a recall with the five wounds of the Christ, while the lower part is reserved for the macabre representations (cranium and cross tibiae). The monument of Joseph Schuster, died in 1824, mutilated by a glare of Shell, breaks with the sobriety of the precedents by its rise in form in Violon, underlined by a decoration Rocaille and its more abundant and more elegant sculpture: Chérubin S in a radiant cloud, Sand glass, candle broken and Weeping willow. These topics, which expresses the escape of time, the interruption of the life and the fact that nature was put at the unison with the pain of the alive ones, are found throughout the 19th century in the east of the the Moselle. With the imitation of nature, the tomb of the family Demmerlé, a family of Sculptor S funerary installed in the village, was high in 1885. Representing an accumulation of stone S, according to a practice spread at the time through all the Lorraine , the monument is dug with the face of a niche sheltering the statue of Notre-Dame de Lourdes. Its private interest lies in long the inscritpion German E in Gothic letters engraved on each simulated stone, with the face and the reverse, also insisting on the brittleness of the life and the escape of time, like glorifiant the work of the Sculpteur.
- Downstream from the village, the high mill, or Neumühle , is one of many the Moulin S which turned along the Bickenalb. It preserved its buildings of the beginning of the 19th century. The home, dated 1823, is attached to the habitat middle-class with its scheduled frontage and its you broken with croups covered of Tuile S punts in scale, even if a little excessive height of the break allourdit the general pace. Downwards the building of the machines remains, the unit rising in the middle of the Saule S and of the Tilleul S.
