Bestla
Bestla is a giant E of the Scandinavian Mythologie. It is the mother of Odin.
Bestla is the girl of Bölthorn. According to Snorri Sturluson ( Gylfaginning , 6), she married Bur (or Bor), wire of the first man Búri. Together, they had three wire, the first gods Odin, Vili and Vé.
The relationship of Bestla and Odin is confirmed by the fact that Odin is sometimes indicated by the Kenning “wire of Bestla” ( its Bestlu ) in scaldic Poésie (for example in the Vellekla of Einar skálaglam).
According to the Hávamál (140) , Bestla has a brother. Odin would hold of this maternal uncle part of his wisdom and its magic.
The significance of its name, dubious, could be “wife” or “bark”.
