Besancon line - Locle

The line Besancon - Locle by Morteau is a railway line connecting the regional capital of Franche-Comté to the Swiss border, in direction of La Chaux-de-Fonds.

History

The line was declared of public utility in 1868. Work began in 1874 and the line was inaugurated in 1884.

It is called the line of the Clock and watch makers (many clock making factories on the basin of Morteau and Locle). It is a line exclusively used by FOR THE THIRD TIME Franche-Comté.

There is no more traffic freight on the line. Nevertheless a traffic of troop trains for the camp of Valdahon (regiment of the Genius) always exists in a regular way.

Two lines were connected on this transversal:

  • that of Ornans/Lods with Hospital-of-Grosbois the,
  • that of Pontarlier with Gilley.

They have both summer closed with the passenger traffic in 1939 and the traffic of the goods at the end of the years 1980.

The line today

Threatened a time of closing, the line profits from a second breath as from 2002 thanks to the regionalization of the passenger transports and policy of the area Franche-Comté. The offer increased by 40% and the frequentation of 56% between 2002 and 2006 coinciding with the arrival of new materials like the ATER X 73500 or AGC X76500 replacing the X 2800.

The service road (exclusively FOR THE THIRD TIME) is composed of:

  • 2 A/R Besancon - Locle - the Lime of Funds
  • 3 A/R Besancon - Morteau
  • 4 A/R Besancon - Valdahon
  • 2 A/R Morteau - Locle - the Lime of Funds
  • 2 outward journeys in because FOR THE THIRD TIME between Besancon and Morteau (1 return) including 1 A/R in correspondence with TGV Paris-Besancon allowing the outward journey return of the inhabitants of Haut-Doubs towards Paris in the course of the day).
the winter service 2007/2008 will see the creation of a bus FOR THE THIRD TIME of evening between Morteau and Besancon as well as the replacement of all the bus FOR THE THIRD TIME between Morteau it Locle and Lime of Funds by trains FOR THE THIRD TIME

The line thus offers a service road périurbaine of Besancon to Valdahon (approximately 1700 travellers per business day) and a service road for the crosses border dailies to work between Morteau and the Lime of Funds (approximately 250 travellers per business day). Moreover, since August 25th, 2007, the reopening of the halt of Crêt of Locle between Locle and La Chaux-de-Fonds FOR THE THIRD TIME allows the to serve the important industrial pole Suisse.

The line is certified French Norme (NF Transport) by AFNOR since 2005.

A system of localization in real-time of the trains will be brought into service at the end of 2007 in order to inform the customers of possible delays on the line.

This splendid line (seen on the valley of Doubs and the Citadel between Besancon and Morre, of the fir plantations between Avoudrey and Gilley and the throats of Doubs de Gilley in Locle) profits for the first time into 2007 from a tourist offer certain days.
