Bertrand of Tripoli

Bertrand of Saint-Gilles , born towards 1065, count de Toulouse and of Tripoli, wire of Raymond de Saint Gilles and of of Toulouse-Provence.

He married Helene of Burgundy, girl of Eudes Borrel, duke of Burgundy, from which he had a son, Pons.

When his/her father left in Crusade in 1096, he entrusted the county of Toulouse to him. As of 1098, it was caught of them with the privileges canons of Saint-Sernin, who called with Guillaume IX of it, duke of Aquitaine which invades and occupied the county. Guillaume IX showed little obstinacy and had to deal with passive resistance, also, when it took the cross in 1101, Bertrand could recover his States. From 1101 to 1108, it is in fight with the pope Pascal II in connection with the abbey of Saint-Gilles.

In 1109, Bertrand engages in his turn in the Crusade, leaving the county of Toulouse to his/her brother Alphonse the Jordan still minor. It arrives at Tripoli always besieged and Guillaume the Jordan refuses to leave him the county. It calls some with Baudouin Ier king de Jérusalem which separates the county into two. Its arrival as that of sound ost allow the taken of Tripoli which becomes the capital of its county.

Guillaume the Jordan is assassinated a little later what enables him to reunify the county of Tripoli. He dies the April 21st 1112.
