Berthe Morisot with the bouquet of violets

Berthe Morisot with the bouquet of violets is a table carried out by the painter Edouard Manet in 1872. The fabric represents the future sister-in-law of the artist, Berthe Morisot, which will marry his/her brother Eugene Manet in 1874.

The young woman, who raises a bouquet of Violette S, is represented in a skilful mixture of light and obscure giving to the table a very particular spirit. Paul Valéry, in particular, saw there the most successful work of Edouard Manet.
